What's in? May 2005 - L'Arc-en-Ciel individual interview - Yukihiro

[Introduction: The writer said he was so surprised to hear that the song was written by Yukki as it was so pop and catchy, and the words for the song is so positive. It was totally different from his previous works.]

Re: New single “New World”

Q: How did you make this song?

Yukihiro: The tempo came up to my mind first. I wanted to make 8 beat tune.

Q: When you made it, didn't you think it was going to hit?

Yukki: I thought so. (laugh)

Q: What did you think when it was chosen to be the single?

Yukki: I was delighted! But the original song had to have better chorus, so I got some ideas from other members.

Q: Hyde san helped you for that right? What did you think his idea?

Yukki: It taught me what the chorus is. (laugh)

Q: It is a pop song. Did you concern it a lot?

Yukki:I didn't really concern about it, though, it should be pop at concern level. It depends on people really. Often some people say it is not pop, it is pop for me. Nobody says Acid Android is pop but it is pop for me.

(liv: …What?)

Q: So you mean this song is pop only because more people feel it so.

Yukki:Probably. That sounds pop for those people too. (laugh)

Q: I was surprised with the words as well. It is very strait. I think you have written Japanese lyrics first time. Why did you write it in Japanese?

Yukki: At first, Hyde kun advised me to write the words because it was my song, but I didn’t… I left it for a while… then, the song was planned to be a new single. So I said it is better Hyde kun write it,… but then he said it surely better that I write it. I wanted to write it in Japanese (if I had to write) so… I wrote… and then showed it to Hyde kun… his gave me advices and then I brought it back home, wrote again to make it better…

Q: Writing in Japanese. What did you think?

Yukki: It was simply interesting. The hardest was when the word was sung along with music. hyde kun said things like, “If the word came this part, it became less impact.” Etc. I leant many things from him.

Q: The word, such as "Hikari tsukami agero" is so positive. Does this reflect your mind?

Yukki: It's simply an order. (laugh) The song was going to be used for the TV program's theme song, so it required positive lyrics.

Q: The theme song for a baseball program, wasn't it?

Yukki: Yes. So… after my efforts, the song turned like that…

Q: It includes your experiences as well as your feelings, right?

Yukki: Can't put in music if there’s nothing in me.

Q: You have done your national tour, and joined the event in overseas last year. I feel that the song reflects your awareness and tension towards music.

Yukki: I am pleased to hear that. But I didn't concern that sort of things during making it. I only feel that it advances.

Q: What kind of sounds did you care for?

Yukki: Structure. It starts with guitar riff, then rhythm of electric drums, and then other sounds come in. Everything turns okay if the guitar sounds cool. Ken chan created really cool riff for the song so I felt "Yatta!" (delighted!)- laugh

Q: You were recorded the album and the single almost at the same time. What was the atmosphere in the studio?

Yukki: Thought we were recording for so long… (laugh) There were good and bad points for using such a long time… It’s sometimes hard for concentration. (laugh)

Q: Tell me about new album.

Yukki: We made the album "SMILE", the new album will be an extension of that album. If there's no "SMILE", the new album would be different… It is difficult to explain what I think using words… but I'm sure that it will be an interesting album.
